Overview
Butterfly Tenergy 05 is the rubber that set the modern benchmark for high-tension play — launched in 2008 and still the model every other performance rubber is measured against. It was the first to combine a clean, non-tacky topsheet tuned with the code No. 05 pimple shape with Butterfly's Spring Sponge, and that combination made heavy spin suddenly available from a relaxed, modern stroke.
That history matters less than what it still does: Tenergy 05 turns a decent loop into a deep, heavy one, and it does it with a forgiving, slightly springy feel that players of every style have come to recognise as simply "Tenergy".
Feel & character
Tenergy 05 is the easiest high-end spin rubber to live with. Its arc is high and safe, spin comes early even from brushes, and the ball stays on the topsheet just long enough that slightly late or slightly short swings still produce good balls. Against backspin it is famous for how easily it lifts — the stroke most intermediate players struggle with is exactly the one this rubber forgives.
The trade is in durability rather than difficulty: the delicate, high-grip topsheet wears and ages faster than the firmer Dignics sheets, so it asks for gentle handling and its protective film when not in play.
